SEDIGEP, a co-operative
growers' union, founded in 1964, was originally
established with the purpose of packing, marketing and
exporting of the agricultural produce of its members. The
union operates successfully as a limited liability
company under the Cyprus Co-operative Law and provides
substantial employment opportunities. The company's
current turnover stands between US$ 25-30 million.
SEDIGEP is primarily
engaged in the packing and exporting of citrus fruit and
table grapes which are marketed under the brand names of:
CYPRINA and TASTE ME. The company operates one central
and two regional packing plants as well as 15 seasonal
stations.
SEDIGEP
exports
account for roughly 55% of the total exports of citrus
originating from Cyprus. Main citrus varieties: Lemons,
Valencia and Shamouti oranges, grapefruit and the new
easy-peeler variety of Mandora. Main citrus markets: The
European Union, Eastern Europe and Scandinavia. Season
availability: October to June.
SEDIGEP
is the
leading exporter of TABLE GRAPES from Cyprus and handles
roughly 70% of total exports. Main grape varieties:
Sultana, Cardinal, Perlette, Gold and Superior. Main
citrus markets: The European Union and Scandinavia.
Season availability: June, July and August.
